affianced…

Affianced is “nerd” for engaged. And this past Friday, I finally traversed this brobdingnagian question, finding it not to be as formidable as I had once presumed… in fact it was really enjoyable and incredulously simple! I blame my fiance’s awesomeness.

Proposal Story
Friday evening I took Candace to Cafe do Brasil, a fine midtown Portuguese restaurant, which boasts a musician who plays 37 different instruments and woos the restaurant patron’s with his smooth buttery voice. After dinner we hopped on my motorbike and headed east with a messenger bag filled with bug spray, a chocolaty dessert, some fruit of the vine and our traveling journal (oh, and the ring too)! I told her we were going to my favorite sunset spot to eat the dessert, and we arrived at the destination just as the sun was sinking into the horizon. From the road to the proposal spot was about 200 yards and as we were walking I began to pick wildflowers along the way… Cheezy? Yes. Effective? Absolutely.

When we were about 100 yards away from the spot, a love seat and coffee table came into view and my scheming was over, “Oh look, someone set up a couch in the middle of this field.” Candace said, while suspiciously eying me with her beautiful green eyes!

Confession: Earlier in the day a good friend and I had set up a love seat, coffee table and empty vase overlooking the river… it was perfect! At this point, I think she absolutely knew the proposal was coming. The pic of the proposal location is at the top of the post and was taken the day before by @donto and yes – it is a random field in the middle of nowhere Oklahoma with a river running through it.

As we sat down on the love seat, I filled the vase with water and the wildflowers and we ate dessert as the sun sank beneath the Oklahoma horizon. Midway through our chocolaty treat, I took out our traveling journal (we have been sending back and forth via the USPS) and read an entry or two… then I awkwardly transitioned to my knee, and asked the question you should never ask if you don’t know the answer. After a slight pause (that felt like an eternity) she said, “Yes!” It was a wonderfully memorable occasion.

Now, to tackle the planning of the wedding.

Thankful for: Candace, sunsets, chocolate, and friends who love to plan weddings!
