Charlotte Mason was a British woman who taught in the early 1900's. She had some amazing philosophies on education, one of which was on what she referred to as "living books." The reason that texts books are so dry is that they have been watered down so that they just serve up the "facts." Charlotte envisioned an education that was based on real, touchable stories, narratives that engaged and stirred the heart and mind and perhaps even the soul. This way you feel like there is room for you to learn along with the person, feel and touch along with the person, as opposed to just reading and believing what they are feeding you. I have loved this idea of learning since I first heard of it, and it models viva vox so well I think.

This goes back to mankind wants to see the walk, not see the talk.
We as Christian's need to be on top of this at all times--the world is watching us more than listening to us.

I feel you here - I think it is why books like what Patrick Lencioni who uses fable to teach, like you are going through a first person experience have been some of my favorites. I also think it is why I would rather be connected to John Maxwell on twitter than read his books because I have the chance of connecting to his first person experiences today before they are boiled down to be served up to the masses.
