stop the chatter…

The conversations were incessant. A constant stream of commercial advertisements, personal propaganda, and pride-filled ignorance that flowed into an ever-powerful stream of white noise. The fix was simple yet confounding. One cannot shut off the spigot of nourishing affirmation and expect to be triumphant over the fear, the horror, of not being heard.

A question I have been asking myself lately, is spurred by very blunt observations of the world, and more specifically the world wide web. It seems that everyone has a blog nowadays, everyone has a twitter, everyone is a “social media” expert selling their services to the the world via 140 characters. With all this undecipherable chatter, who then is heard?

The loudest?

The coolest?

The most provocative?

The most polished?

Fame is a deplorable desire. For it does not bring with it any more clarity than vanity brings beauty… As we struggle to be heard by the masses we forget to listen and all of our effort winds up for naught. It is a dichotomous life. Drowning in the noise with our fingers on the drain, we lack the discipline to unplug.
